The Korean War

From time-to-time, we may forget that many Legion members that are not veterans have personal and historical links to family members that were.

Canadian war veterans are remembered nationally on 11 November and during significant anniversary dates tied to specific campaigns, battles and anniversaries.

But other nations also remember and pay honour to the sacrifices of Canadians that served overseas.

The Republic of Korea acknowledges our shared sacrifice with their offering of their ‘Ambassador for Peace Medal’ to Canadians that had served in the Korean War from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953.

From time-to-time, we may forget that many Legion members that are not veterans, but have personal and historical links to family members that were.  Petty Officer Alexander Taylor Murray†, who served aboard the destroyer HMCS Cayuga off the coast of the Korean peninsula, was a recent recipient of the ‘Ambassador for Peace Medal’.  PO Murrays’ medal was accepted by his half-brother Bill Pratt.
